Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

๐ŸŸ PlastikPay+

PlastikPay+ is a digital platform that brings together individuals, recyclers, and businesses to trade, value add, and transport recyclable plastics and other commonly discarded materials. Powered by big data science, spatial AI business analytics, and Solana blockchain technologiesโ€”jointly developed by SOuLSANCTUARY Strategies Consultancy Inc. (a corporation) and SOuL Sanctuary Society Inc. (a non-profit) and supported by Superteam Japanโ€”the platform facilitates transparent and traceable recycling and upcycling transactions. By supporting community-led logistics and mapping activity, PlasticPay+ helps extend the lifespan of plastic materials, minimizes environmental impact, and promotes a competitive, scalable approach to the circular economy.

  • +๐ŸŽฏ Ultimate goal

Transition to plastic-responsible use world | We understand that there are plastics used for certain purposes that can not be replaced yet by non-plastic materials but there plastic types that can be used repeatedly without losing its integrity. Hence, we can resposibly use better plastic type materials while we are still close in the gap of crafting and realising the non-plastic alternatives.

  • +๐Ÿค Main beneficiaries, partners, and supporters

Informal waste collectors, women, and youth are our main beneficiaries. Junkshops, recyclers, upcylers, social enterprises, and businesses are our partners. NGOs, POs, WOs, COs, educators, and socially-responsible leaders and influencers are our supporters.

  • +๐ŸŒ Problem we want to address at the global scale

Plastic waste pollution is a growing global crisis. Every year, the world produces around 2.01 billion tonnes of wasteโ€”and that number is expected to jump by 70% by 2050 (World Bank, 2023). Yet, only about 11% of this plastic is actually recycled. That gap represents a huge missed opportunity: the potential to create 2.45 million jobs, $136 trillion in wages, and $19 billion in tax revenue annually (US EPA).

In the Indo-Pacific, especially in low-income coastal and urban areas, unmanaged plastic waste leads to serious consequencesโ€”ranging from public health risks to environmental damage. Nano and microplastics are making their way into marine life and drinking water, threatening both ecosystems and human well-being.

Even though many plastics have recyclable value, they often end up burned, buried, or exported at low prices. This is largely due to broken collection systems, lack of traceability, and limited incentives for communities to recycle locally. Informal waste collectorsโ€”key players in the ecosystemโ€”often work in dangerous conditions and are forced to sell materials at unfairly low prices, controlled by monopolized junk shop networks. Meanwhile, recyclers face difficulties getting clean, sorted plastic, and local governments lack reliable data to guide decisions or improve systems.

Our research shows that communities want change. Thereโ€™s strong interest in peer-to-peer recycling, fairer pricing, and better access to localized recycling solutions. Whatโ€™s needed now is a smart, spatial AI-driven platform that brings together all the playersโ€”collectors, recyclers, businesses, and governments. It should track materials, ensure fair trade, and support the growth of micro-enterprises like storage hubs, pelletizers, and even barter-based trade systems through neighborhood stores.

  • +๐ŸŒŠ Problem we want to address in the Indo-pacific Region

Plastic waste pollution is a growing concern, especially in urban and coastal areas across the Indo-Pacific. In 2017, the Philippines contributed 1.1 million metric tonnes of plastic waste pollution, while Indonesia contributed over 1.2 million metric tonnes.โ€‹ (Ballard Brief)

Informal waste collectors, who play a crucial role in recycling, often work under hazardous conditions. Globally, up to 20 million people are engaged in informal waste picking, facing risks such as exposure to contaminated waste and lack of protective equipment .โ€‹ (UNDP) (WIEGO)

Recyclers and upcyclers encounter challenges in sourcing clean, sorted materials efficiently. The materials needed for upcycling are often scattered across various locations, making collection and transportation costly and inefficient .โ€‹ (Fashion โ†’ Sustainability Directory)

Local governments and stakeholders often lack reliable data to inform waste management policies or optimize systems. Waste management data is critical to creating policy and planning for the local context โ€” but all too often, it is inconsistent .โ€‹ (World Economic Forum)

Our research, including user surveys and community interviews, revealed a high interest in peer-to-peer recycling systems and greater transparency in the value chain. People are open to adjustments but are often attached to the existing system they have created to fit their lifestyle .โ€‹ (The Recycling Partnership)

To address these challenges, we've developed PlastikPay+, a localized digital platform designed to coordinate actors in the recycling ecosystem. By mapping transactions and enabling community-driven logistics, we aim to extend the life cycle of plastic materials and reduce environmental impact. The platform empowers users to contribute directly to a circular economy, while enabling transparent, traceable, and scalable recycling practices.โ€‹

PlastikPay+ also introduces a recyclables trade with goods and services barter space, helping general merchandise stores participate in and facilitate trade and recovery through their extensive geographic reach.โ€‹

By supporting community-led logistics and mapping activity, PlastikPay+ helps extend the lifespan of plastic materials, minimizes environmental impact, and promotes a competitive, scalable approach to the circular economy.

Plastic waste pollution is a pressing issue in the Indo-Pacific region, with several countries contributing significantly to the problem. By supporting community-led logistics and mapping activity, PlastikPay+ helps extend the lifespan of plastic materials, minimizes environmental impact, and promotes a competitive, scalable approach to the circular economy.

  • +๐Ÿ’ก SMART Solution we offer

At PlastikPay+, we're reimagining recycling. Our spatial-AI powered platform connects everyday people, recyclers, businesses, and transporters to buy, sell, and move recyclable plastics and other overlooked materialsโ€”making recycling smarter, easier, and more rewarding for everyone.

We use big data, real-time mapping, and AI-powered insights to turn what used to be a messy, opaque process into something that's transparent, traceable, and financially worthwhile. The goal? To help anyoneโ€”from a student to a business ownerโ€”take part in a greener, circular economy.

Hereโ€™s why it matters: the world produces 2.01 billion tonnes of waste every year, and only about 11% of it gets recycled. Thatโ€™s a huge missed opportunity. According to the World Bank and the US EPA, unlocking recycling at scale could create over 2.45 million jobs, $136 trillion in wages, and $19 billion in tax revenueโ€”every single year.

So what does PlastikPay+ actually offer?

โ™ป๏ธ A marketplace to order, sell, or schedule pickup and delivery of recyclables

๐Ÿ“ Real-time inventory and capacity tracking based on location

๐Ÿง  AI-powered logistics and fair pricing transparency

๐Ÿ“„ Certified reports showing your environmental and economic impact

๐Ÿ“Š Tools to track business performance and carbon offset contributions

๐ŸŒ A decentralized trade system that empowers women, youth, and underserved communities

Weโ€™re not just another recycling appโ€”weโ€™re building a system that makes climate action local, inclusive, and scalable. Whether you're a collector, shop owner, recycler, or just someone who wants to make a difference, PlastikPay+ helps you plug into a recycling economy that reduces pollution, creates real jobs, and helps businesses meet their ESG goals.

And the best part? Our model is designed to scale globallyโ€”so we can keep sparking new businesses and changing how the world sees plastic, one community at a time.
